I read this book cover-to-cover and couldn’t put it down. There was so much that absolutely resonated with me since I too am a small business owner.This book is brutally honest. I know it couldn’t have been easy writing about mistakes but he did this so that we could learn from his experiences. It’s one thing to write about the good things in life. It’s another thing entirely to write about mistakes you may have made or where the systems that were meant to protect us small business owners have let us down.
I love the way the author incorporates parenting advice, not only in how his mother parented him but how he now parents his own children. He also incorporates life lessons, all of which has a lot to do with being a small business owner.
More than anything, the book shows that no matter what happens to you, don’t give up, because there’s always a way to reinvent yourself.

I had the pleasure of reading this book before it was published. For anyone who has experienced hard times and felt hopeless - this book will inspire you to keep pushing forward; as well as to pursue your dreams and goals in life. A wonderful example of how true love can pull you through the most arduous times in your life. A great reminder of how our trials and tribulations can transform us if we keep pushing forward. I highly recommend this book to everyone (as we can all relate in one way or another). Inspiring hope to all! =)
I've worked for Jerry for years and really appreciate his unique insight on business and life. He has advised me on several serious issues that I have faced both professionally and personally. In almost every instance that I have asked for his consult, he has either been in the same position, or has had some sort of similar experience in his own life. His guidance has always been helpful and much appreciated. He's been in tough spots in life and constantly uses his experiences to help others avoid the same landmines that life has put in his path and guide others to success. Great read!
I found this book to be a very revealing, very honest look at how someone can go from flying high to laid low very quickly, and how to rise from the ashes of that fall. The author is forthright about his personal shortcomings and how some choices, that did seem to be bad choices at the time, contributed enormously to his downfall.
But more than the recitation of a personal failure, it is an intimate examination of what allows someone to rise after defeat, and how small steps, taken in the right direction, will get you back on track. Not everyone has the author's innate drive, but everyone can learn from his journey and apply those lessons to their own lives. It is not just a "business" book. It is a life lesson, and a fascinating one at that.
I just finished this book in one sitting, and enjoyed it immensely. If it's true that it's not what happens to us that matters, but rather what we do with what happens to us that matters most, then Jerry is leading by example for all of us. As someone who has reinvented himself a few times in his life, I have come to understand that it's as much about the journey as it is about the destination. And sometimes that means things are going to get worse before they get better, but if you're paying attention, you'll find something useful at the bottom, something that ends up powering the rest of your life. And the luckiest among us figure out before it's all over that the biggest purpose we could create for ourselves is what we do for others.
I am lucky to count Jerry among my friends, but reading in his own words the struggles and challenges he has faced and overcome has given me an even greater sense and understanding of the man I call friend.
This is a great and inspiring read for any person, but especially the business owner.
Having lived through a four year federal lawsuit the book is a reminder of the process that all people can survive due process.
A MUST READ!! this is an excellent look into the frailties of the business world. A well written personal story of the ups and downs and ups of building a business and how to move forward, Jerry shows a brutal honesty and leaves you with insightful lessons for you to discover.I highly recommend anyone in a small business to give this a read !
Excellent real world story that details how the world of finance turned upside down in 2008 and how hard working small business owners got caught up in the big banks and government quagmire. This book is inspiring as where some people may have just given up Mr. Isenhour makes a Rocky Balboa like come back. So much wisdom can be learned by reading and learning from people like this. I highly recommend it!
